Ukraine and the EBRD signed a loan agreement for 300 million euros to improve plant safety
Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Monday signed a loan agreement for 300 million euros in the framework of a comprehensive program to improve safety of power units of Ukrainian NPPs.
As the agency "Interfax-Ukraine", an agreement with the Ukrainian side was signed by Minister of Energy and Mines Edward Stavitsky and Acting President NNEGC "Energoatom" Vissarion Kim, by the bank - the director of the EBRD in Ukraine Andre Kuusvek.
"This project is very important for Ukraine in the context of maintaining a high degree of safety of nuclear installations," - said A.Kuusvek.
The funds will be provided in 2013, the term of the loan - 15 years, interest rate - Libor +1% for the euro.
As reported, the Bank decided to participate in a comprehensive program to improve the safety in use of power units of Ukrainian NPPs by providing loan of EUR300 million 12 March 2013.
Overall, the program is estimated EUR1, 4 billion more EUR300 million will provide the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). The Cabinet of Ministers recognized the utility of engaging NAEC "Energoatom" loan of EUR600 million from the EBRD and Euratom to implement a comprehensive program to improve safety of Ukrainian NPPs.
The Government of Ukraine Decree № 1270 of December 7, 2011 approved a comprehensive program to improve safety at the NPP 2012-2017. total value of 12.453 billion UAH. According to the document, the sources of funding for the program, in addition to the EBRD and Euratom loans in the amount of 8 billion USD, will have their own means of NAEC "Energoatom" - UAH 4.453 billion (EUR426, 3 million).
The program will bring the Ukrainian security units to international standards, as well as ensure the full implementation of international obligations to improve the safety of existing nuclear power plants.
"Energoatom" is the operator of all existing nuclear power plants in Ukraine. Operates Zaporizhzhya, South-Ukrainian, Rivne and Khmelnitsky stations equipped with water-cooled power reactors with a total installed capacity of 13.835 GW.
